ADDRESS BY THE CHAIRMAN OF TRIANGULAR GROUP OF PENSIONERS, PRINCE ROTIMI ADELUGBA, AT THE PRESS CONFRENCE ON THE ONGOING PROTEST OF 2011-2012 GROUP OF PENSIONERS ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE26, 2019

ADDRESS BY THE CHAIRMAN OF TRIANGULAR GROUP OF PENSIONERS, PRINCE ROT
IMI ADELUGBA, AT THE PRESS CONFRENCE ON THE ONGOING PROTEST OF 2011-2012 GROUP OF PENSIONERS ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE26, 2019

Gentlemen of the Press,

We are constrained to react to the action by the 2011-2012 set of pensioners who took to the streets yesterday and today to protest non payment of arrears of 15 months pension.

The group claimed that Government had received and diverted the Paris ClubRefund.

As concerned pensioners, we are constrained to state that our colleagues’ allegations are far from the truth.

Since the current Administration assumed office over six months ago, it has ensured full  payment of our monthly pension and wages to all levels as and when due in line with its promise, and subject to release of allocations from the Federal Government as it is pubic knowledge that the State Government is making efforts to improve its internally generated revenue base.

As we are all aware, not all of us pensioners are being owed the 15 months pension arrears.

Our findings reveal that government has not received any Paris Club Refund as claimed by our colleagues. We are also not aware that other States have been paid the Paris Club Refund.

We are also in receipt of the information that some of our colleagues have collected their bonds recently and that some are ready for collection.

Government’s ability to keep its promise to fully pay pensioners’ arrears and gratuity as promised is enough reasonfor us to believe them that they will pay our pension arrears when the funds are available.

In view of the above, we appeal to our colleagues to understand and appreciate the constraints and efforts of government and to maintain the peace as government works hard to take care of our needs and welfare.

Thank you.

Osun Govt. Clears the air on the rumoured intervention funds received by the state.

*Osun Govt. Clears the air on the rumoured intervention funds received by the state.*

The State government of Osun has cleared the air on the rumoured  new intervention funds said to have been released to the state by the federal government  as the state government has come out again to fault the claim.

A section of retirees in Osun who were believed to be sponsored by the opposition party had on Tuesday and also on Wednesday staged a protest and matched round some major streets in Osogbo the state capital and carried placards will different inscriptions on them alleging that  the state has received another tranche of Paris club refund and refused to settle pension  arrears owed by the government.

The retirees who were led by one Mr Yemi Lawal who had gone round some major streets later  took  the protest to the main gate of the state Secretariat Abere on Wednesday in order to meet the governor for clarifications.

The retirees had claimed that about 6.3 billion naira has been received by the state government out of about 243 billion naira they alledged that has been released to all the  36 states by the federal government.

Mr Lawal who spoke on behalf of the retirees alledged that the state government has perfected plans to divert the funds by using it to settle the severance package for the immediate past state lawmakers and to pay for the wardrobe allowance and to buy  official vehicles for the state new members of the state house of Assembly at the expense of their welfare.

Addressing the  protesting retirees at the main gate of the state Secretariat, the state Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi  who faulted the claims described it as mere rumours and falsehood.

Mr Alabi who went to meet the retirees alongside the Secretary to the state government Prince Wole Oyebamiji and the supervisor for information and strategy Mr Adelani Baderinwa said the government has never received any such fund.

He said Osun state is not operating in an isolation and if such intervention funds would be released at all by the federal government to states, it would not be disbursed in secret and more so that Governor Gboyega Oyetola is running a transparent administration as Omoluabi per excellent.

The Osun Deputy Governor however challenged the protesting pensioners to bring evidence if there is any to back there claims.

He said the present administration has never failed in its statutory obligation to the both active workers and the senior citizens by continuing to pay full month salaries and pension up till date.

He also announced that the Governor Gboyega Oyetola's administration has approved the 100% increase in the amount being released monthly to settle arrears of gratuity from 50  million to 100 million naira as well as on the issuance of bond certificates to the retirees under the contributory pension scheme.

On the claims by the retirees, Osun Deputy Governor assured that the matter would be tabled before Governor Gboyega Oyetola for more clarifications just as he asked the group to send representatives to meet with the state government by next week for dialogue.

Protest by some retirees is political and mischievous~ Osun Govt.

The government of the state of Osun has described as mischievous a protest embarked upon by a section of retirees in Osogbo on Tuesday over what they called a peaceful protest to demand for  arrears of pension owed them by government.

Some pensioners said to be led by one Mr. Yemi Lawal were reported to have  staged a protest and caried banners and placards with different inscriptions on them and marched towards major streets in Osogbo alleging that the state government had received another tranche of Parish Club refund but refused to settle their outstanding arrears.

State Deputy Governor Mr. Benedict Alabi while reacting to the protest said the state government has not received any Paris Club refund as claimed by the few  protesting retirees and if the have any evidence to the contrary, it should be publicized.

He maintained that the present Government under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola has always been faithful to its promise and ensures that the era of modulated salaries was gone forever in the state with the  payment of full month salaries and pension till date

He advised the  retirees in Osun  never to allow themselves to be used by the opposition as it had  happened in the past when few of them allowed themselves to be  sponsored by the opposition party to stage protests based on lies and rumours  to instigate them against  government and cause unrest in the state

The Deputy Governor said initiating  the protest at this time when the government has not failed in its statutory responsibility is tantamount to public disturbance.

He however assured that, government would continue to prioritize the welfare of its active workers and  retirees as arrears of gratuity are currently being settled whenever funds are available.

He said the present administration has also been issuing bond certificates to the retirees under the contributory pension scheme as well as making frantic efforts to regularly provide funds to settle the arrears of gratuity.

Our peaceful and cooperate existence rest on our youths~ says Oyetola

The Governor, state of Osun Mr. Gboyega Oyetola said that the major determinants of peaceful and Corporate existence of Nigeria as a nation are the youths

According to him,  it is in the area in which youths channel their energy that will determine the strength of a nation as they constitute the most productive segment of the population in every society.

Governor Oyetola stated this on thursday  at the official opening and swearing in ceremony of the NYSC 2019 Batch 'B' orientation programme at NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ede.

He tasked the  2019 Batch 'B' Members of the National Youths Service Corps to see the scheme as a privilege to serve and impact positively upon the society.

He also implored them to take with utmost seriousness,  the noble call and dedicate themselves towards achieving the national unity and development which is the ultimate goal of the scheme.

The State Governor acknowledged that the NYSC scheme which was established almost five decades ago has come a long way and it remains a singular institution that has done so much to curb ethnicity, sectionalism and tribalism.

He stated that his administration has resolved to work in synergy with the NYSC leadership in every way possible to ensure the success of the scheme in the state.

Governor Oyetola assured the NYSC corps members deployed in the state of peace and security and to see the state of Osun as home away from home.

He expressed optimism that the one year national youths service would give them the opportunity to enrich their lives and experience with the hospitable, friendly and accommodating  environment which the state provides.

In his words, "I want you to channel your energy,  vigour and drive towards the achievements of lofty ideas and aspirations.

"Abstain from vices such as drug abuse, fraud, kidnapping, robbery, cultism, violence and crimes. These undermine  and  hinder you from being a ray of hope for your generation and the nation.

" I therefore urged you to see yourself as a leading light for the present and future generations. See your mobilization as a privilege to serve and impart upon society positively.

"Complement the gesture of NYSC and the government by being good ambassadors and advocates of peaceful coexistence and the corporate existence of our nation.

"Dear compatriots, I want you to maximize the platform provided by the NYSC to Foster friendship, understanding, peace and positive cooperation among yourselves and our people irrespective of ethnic, cultural or religious differences. Support, encourage and fully participate in the promotion of this ideal", Governor Oyetola said.
