Osun Governor Visits Flooded Area

Osun Governor Visits Flooded Area

The State of Osun Governor Mr. Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola this evening visited Mallam Tope Area, Osogbo which was affected from flood occasioned by the continuous rain.

The on-the-spot assessment was to determine the damage which had been caused by the resulting flood.

According to a post on the governor's Twitter handle, the Ministry of Works have been directed to move in immediately.

Women moulders of nation builders, says Oyetola

Women moulders of nation builders, says Oyetola

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun said on Tuesday that women across the globe deserve recognition and commendation for being moulders of all builders of nation the world over.

The governor, who said this while delivering a goodwill message at the 2nd National Women’s Conference held in Osogbo, described women's role in leadership as booster to the sustainable development of a nation.

This is even as the wife of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, who was the Keynote Speaker at the event, called on Nigerian women to rise up to the societal needs by being supportive to their husbands in the quest to move the nation forward.

She described women as vanguards of development, saying their role in the achievement of sustainable development and national unity cannot be over-emphasised.

Governor Oyetola further maintained that women in Osun are given a pride of place as government is conscious of their rights, capacity and welfare, adding that Osun is a gender sensitive state.

He noted that the administration had, in the last ten months, been supportive of the women by giving them soft loans to float small scale businesses.

He added that women in the state are also being mobilised to participate in politics as this is key to their involvement in the development of the state.

The governor also acknowledged and lauded the support of his wife, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola through her leadership of Osun Women Development Association (OSUNWA), in the promotion of girl child education and women's participation in politics, business and agriculture.

He said, "The theme of this Conference, 'Woman, Pioneer of Change for Inclusive Participation in Development,' is both beneficial to the women and the nation.

"It is an ample avenue for women, our vessels of honour, to mobilise and galvanise themselves into a formidable group for equitable and inclusive participation in nation building.

"It is also a forum for our nation to further experience sustainable development through this initiative. Women are noted world over as great managers of men and resources, and indispensable supporters of successful ventures.

"The real strength of a nation emanates from families where its builders are moulded. These nation builders are armed with the ethos of character and zeal imbued in them mostly by the mothers.

"As a nation in need of change to regain our desired rebirth, the source of such reawakening can only genuinely come from the women. And when women garner their managerial skills to rouse society to action at all levels as they are doing now, the nation is on the right course to sustainable development.

"In our 10 months in government, we have given loans to women to float small scale businesses, especially in Agriculture to reposition them for self and societal development.

"Osun has enjoyed the contributions, cooperation and capacity of women in position of leadership. We are resolved to use them as points of contact to other women so that they can equitably contribute to governance and development.

"Development enjoys a boost when women who reports say constitute majority of the population actively participate in developmental activities.

"The State of Osun is a gender sensitive state and one that is conscious of the rights, capacity and welfare of women. Our First Lady has been active in mobilising the women for the development of the State. ”

Earlier in her welcome address, the Chairperson of OSUNWA and wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola thanked the governor for his continuous support for women in the state.

She said OSUNWA had created a platform for the wives of government officials to meet and deliberate on the development of the state, adding that the association has registered a footprint in developmental and empowerment projects in the state.

The event was graced by the wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr. Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, wife of Ogun Governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun and the Secretary to Ogun government, Mr. Olatokunbo Moses Talabi, who represented Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, while the wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Akeredolu, was represented by the state's commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Dickson Adeyemi.

Security: Osun govt sets to turn popular Olajoku's park to security base

Security: Osun govt sets to turn popular Olajoku's park to security base

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has said that to effectively police the Osogbo-Gbongan-Ibadan road, the popular Olajoku's park located at Gbongan junction will be rehabilitated and converted to a Joint Task Force base of the security agencies.

Addressing the journalists shortly after the inspection of the facilities yesterday, the governor said the decision was taken after justifying the significance of the location to the security needs of the state.

He attributed the decision to the need to properly police the area to prevent kidnappers and other criminals from having a field day, saying the initiative would help to strengthen the security in the state and ensure adequate protection of lives and property of the citizens.

Olajoku's park, built in 2013 in memory of the late businessman cum politician, Alhaji Hassan Olajoku, was to serve as the state's central relaxation centre for motorists in transit.

The governor reiterated the administration's determination to the security and welfare of the people, saying no effort would be spared by the government to protect the lives and property of the citizenry.

"We are set to rejuvenate this place for the purpose of enhancing the security profile of the state. We are doing this in respect of the significance of this place being the central point that adjoins the state with other states like Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Ogun, among others.

"As you all know, our administration has been working hard to strengthen the security by forming Joint Security Task Force.  Thus, having its base here would go a long way to helping to serve the purpose.

"The Osun Security Joint Task Force which is the collaboration of the Army, Air Force, Police, NSCDC, DSS among other security agencies, is put together to ensure that the state is absolutely safe and effectively secured.

"With this move, the entire highways will be secured. This is a central point particularly the way to Ibadan, Ondo, Ekiti, and Ogun. I am happy for the location of this place. This will help to properly nip in the bud the security challenges. This is in furtherance to the fact that we are concerned about the security of our people.

"In any case, the security and welfare of the people are the primary responsibility of government and as a government; we are determined to live up to that responsibility.

"We are also determined to flush out the criminal elements within and outside the state as we are working in collaboration with the security agencies to tackle kidnapping, banditry, and robbery, among others.

"We are hopeful that when this place is revitalised for security purpose, it will take care of the highways and when this is done, the issue of kidnapping would be a thing of the past in our state.

"Though this place is like a comfort zone, with the value that we are adding to it, it will equally serve as a security zone where people can be assured of topmost security and relaxation.

"I want to assure our people that the government would remain committed to their security and welfare," the governor said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Ige, commended the commitment of the state government to tackling insecurity.

Ige who described the move to rehabilitate and convert the park to a security base as a welcome development, said the initiative would further help the security agencies perform optimally.

"This is coming at the right time. We have been talking on the need to enhance the security in the state. So, with this initiative, Osun is in safe hands.

"Turning this place to operational base of the joint task force of the security agencies will further enhance the performance of the security personnel in the state", Ige added.

The governor was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji; Deputy Chief of Staff, Prince Abdullahi Binuyo; Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige; Commandant Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, Oguntuase Adeyinka, and the Olufi of Gbongan, Oba Adetoyese Oyeniyi.

AKOL; A NAME THAT CANNOT BE PULLED DOWN BY POLITICAL DETRACTORS

AKOL; A NAME THAT CANNOT BE PULLED DOWN BY POLITICAL DETRACTORS

Like him or Hate Him, Olasiji Olamiju is an household name not only in Osun State but all over Nigeria. An experienced and accomplished medical practitioner, entrepreneur cum politician per excellence.

AKOL is an embodiment of humility, doggedness and all sense of effortless contributions to the development of humanity.

His sojourn into politics from the private sector is a testimony of his undying love for the emancipation of his people with regards to his sterling achievements in al ramifications.

His nomination therefore as a Commissioner-Designate by Governor Gboyega Oyetola further resonates the confidence of the state’s helmsman in optimizing AKOL’s God given talents in threading the path of development further in Osun.

Much has been said about his candidature for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the last general elections and his eventual withdrawal of his case against the declared winner of the election especially by a group, *COALITION OF CONCERNED OBOKUN PROGRESSIVE GROUPS (COPG)* all to vilify and making him as a disloyal party man and a silent supporter of the opposition; all which are not only baseless, but a figment of the imagination of his political detractors.

No modicum of hate, lies, political propangada and political machinations can bring down a man loved by his people, rewarded for his loyalty by his party and chosen by the Governor to serve the state.

Eni ti Olorun Da Ni Olasiji Olamiju - His Detractors should just join hands with him to take Obokun/Oriade to the next level. No amount of Hatred or Gangsterism by the purported, faceless political jobbers with near zero electoral values  under the aegis of *COALITION OF CONCERNED OBOKUN PROGRESSIVE GROUPS (COPG)* and other groups will or ever bring him down nor fuel hatred from his people to him. "A n juwon o se e wi lejo, ija ilara o tan boro". Turning yourselves to the enemy of Obokun progress is a clear indication of your disloyalty, self-centered ness and high level of  unpatriotic tendency. " E yee binu ori mo ...."

Island Club honours Oyetola, inducts him as member

Island Club honours Oyetola, inducts him as member

. As he seeks collaborative effort in tackling economic challenges

Lasting solution to the economic challenges confronting Nigeria,  was on Friday night X-rayed by Governor Gboyega Oyetola of The State of Osun at the 2019 Independence Dance of the Island Club, where he was honoured and inducted as member of the club.

The governor, who doubled as a Special Guest of Honour at the grand event, said collaborative effort among the states, individuals, corporate bodies and federal government would be required to tackle the economic challenges  in Nigeria.

Oyetola, who  thanked the Club for honouring him, expressed dissatisfaction that after 59 years of existence, Nigeria is still struggling to get its economy right.

He identified five major issues as defining factors for Nigeria's economic woes, including youth unemployment, poverty, corruption, weak institutions and insecurity, adding that the identified challenges  must be tackled for the country's economy to be on good standing.

He however lauded President Muhammadu Buhari whom he described as the face of integrity and good governance for his efforts at resolving some of the identified challenges, and particularly the fight against corruption, calling on eminent Nigerians, including members of the Island Club and other philanthropic Nigerians to join the government in the struggle to move Nigeria forward.

He said government at all levels must work out a synergy with the private sector to solve these key problems with a view to  revamping the country's economy.

He said, "In line with your expectations that I 'make pronouncements on our national state of affairs', I carry with me six kits: youth unemployment, poverty, corruption, weak institutions and insecurity.

"Nigeria, like most countries, is still struggling to get its economy right after years in the global economic trenches. With this struggle come the nagging and persistent issues of youth unemployment, poverty, corruption, weak institutions, and insecurity. We will all agree that solving most of these problems revolves substantially around fixing the economy.

"As front liners and opinion holders, political and industry elites have a duty to lead our citizens on the path of unity in diversity. Our ethnic, religious and linguistic diversity should be the sources of our strength.

"The elite in industry and organised groups such as the Island Club must get involved. Politics is too sensitive, too involving, too crucial, to be left to the politicians alone. With the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Diversification of the Economy Policy, the Federal Government has liberalised agriculture, mining, with credits and loans to make them viable.

"Agriculture alone has proved that it is able to banish hunger and provide jobs for a substantial number of our teeming youths.

"Efforts are also on top gear to create an enabling environment to bring back our manufacturing sectors to mop up youth unemployment.

"All the 36 states of the Federation, corporate organisations, groups and well-meaning Nigerians need to collaborate with the Federal Government to massively tackle unemployment and hunger. There is also no doubt that if well handled, agriculture alone can mop up close to half of the unemployed youths."

While lauding the Buhari-led administration for pursuing vigorously the diversification policy, Oyetola said "as at 2015 when President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office, corruption had become a second name of the nation. Corruption is a cancer to the economy, health, infrastructure and other sectors of the nation.

"Beyond financial manifestation, corruption is at the root of pervasive collapsed buildings, failed roads, compromised drugs and foods and other digestible that are dangerous to life and health.

"President Buhari assumed office as the symbol and face of integrity and good governance. He has dealt a huge blow on corruption in his four and half years as President through the introduction of Treasury Single Account, arrest and prosecution of corrupt officials, fortifying anti-corruption organisations and institutions of anti-corruption policies.

"Barely two years in the saddle, the president began walking tall among his colleagues around the world for his stance on corruption.

"This worthwhile initiative must be embraced by the other two tiers of government; all the states, their Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as the local government areas and corporate organisations.

"There is also a need to introduce anti-corruption crusade in the curricular of tertiary institutions to prepare the leaders of tomorrow for the onerous task of leadership.

"Our people require education and sensitisation to buy into a new improved Nigeria. The civil society and the media should be at the forefront of this vanguard. Government at all levels must show guidance and leadership by mustering the political will to drive a new Nigeria.

"There has to be synergy between the governments at all levels and the private sector. Government must continue to create an enabling environment for the public sector to grow the economy and provide employment.

"When public and corporate activities are powered by strategic thinking, planning, continuity and sustainable development will be on auto pilot and our nation will be on the path of prosperity and progress," he added.

Oyetola extols Akinrinade at 80

Oyetola extols Akinrinade at 80

Says he empitomises Osun's Omoluabi ethos

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola on Thursday joined fellow South West states governors and other eminent Nigerians to celebrate General Ipoola Alani Akinrinade (rtd.) at 80, describing him as a patriotic Nigerian.

Oyetola, in his welcome address at a grand birthday event held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo State,  also described the elderstatesman as a democracy icon who is being celebrated across the globe.

The governor went down memory lane to recall the pivotal role played by the celebrant in the tough struggle to restore democracy and the dignity of Nigeria as a nation.

He said, "I am highly honoured to welcome you all to the celebration of Lt. General Alani Ipoola Akinrinade (rtd.), CFR, GCON, a soldier’s soldier, a democracy icon, a patriot, a proud father and family man, and a statesman at 80.

"One of the proofs of God’s blessings to a man is for his children to gather, celebrate him and declare him blessed in his lifetime. Our General, today’s gathering by us, your children – biological, political and military – testifies to God’s goodness to you and our appreciation of your life of kindness, service, humility and selflessness.

"An entry into the Octogenarian Class is a privilege and it is doubly so if such a life is still a rallying point for national and international engagements. The composition of this audience testifies to the enduring relevance of a man born in the ancient village of Yakoyo 80 years ago, but now celebrated across the world.

"Communicators aver that any activity, no matter how profound, which is not given adequate publicity, is like winking in the dark, only the winker knows what he is doing, nobody else does.

"It is on this premise that I deeply appreciate you all our distinguished guests and the Planning Committee for being the amplifiers of the humble contributions of this thoroughly patriotic Nigerian.

"Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to celebrate a gentleman whose destiny is intricately linked to the destiny of our country, Nigeria.

"He joined the Nigerian Army at the nation's independence in 1960 at a young age of 21, rising through the ranks to become a Lieutenant General, the peak of his career, in the landmark year of 1979 when the military voluntarily handed over power to a civilian administration.

"He continues to render selfless service to the nation after a distinguished career and in retirement. He was a light and a pillar during the dark days of the military when his own primary constituency, the military, annulled the 1993 Presidential Election and supplanted the will of the people.

"At personal costs, Lt. General Akinrinade aligned with the National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, to restore democracy and the dignity of the Nigerian nation."

Oyetola also described Lt. General Akinrinade as an Encyclopaedia of Nigerian politics, having actively participated in the nation’s political evolution through the military days to the present democratic dispensation.

"Akinrinade’s credential as one of the selling points of The State of Osun. His profile and contributions are important chapters in the recognition of Osun as one of the States of Distinction in Nigeria.

"I am proud to be the governor of a man who typifies the Omoluabi ethos, which our state holds dear, and a fine gentleman who is a reference point in the military, statesmanship and progressivism," the governor added.

Eminent Nigerians that graced the occasion included Osun Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, Chairman, NGF and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, Nobel Laurette, Professor Wole Soyinka, APC leader and former Osun Governor, Adebisi Akande, Osun Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi and his Ondo and Ogun counterparts respectively, Osun Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, Royal fathers of Osun led by the Ooni of Ife, HRH Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, former Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, former Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, former Osun Deputy Governor, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori, Service Chiefs, and forum of retired military men among others.

Cabinet list: No LG will be marginalised -Oyetola

. Assures of adequate, equal representation

The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has reassured the citizens of the state of adequate representation in the administration, especially with regard to political appointments.

He said the administration was committed to ensuring that every local government of the state was fully represented in the management of the affairs of the state, saying apart from the list that had just been released, there are many more appointments to be made and that those councils that may not have benefitted from the list of commissioners and advisers would certainly benefit from subsequent appointments that would be made.

Oyetola further said that the administration was committed to the welfare and general well-being of the people of the state as manifested in the myriads of social intervention programmes that the state has been embarking on in the last 10 months.

Fielding questions from journalists on Sunday at the Government House, Osogbo, shortly after the prayer session organised in his honour by the committee of friends to mark his 65th birthday anniversary, the governor appealed to the protesting citizens to remain calm as the government is committed to ensuring equal representation.

"It is expected that in a process like this we will have few complaints here and there, but we have followed due process in the choice of the people that made the list and everybody that we have picked was picked based on merit.

"We play politics when seeking the office. But now that we have been elected, we are facing governance. I urge all those that will be working with me in the cabinet to imbibe the same spirit. They must put politics aside and face governance so that we can deliver on our mandate.

"Again, there are quite a number of other positions that we can fix our people in. As a matter of fact, everybody cannot make the cabinet; all we are doing is to ensure that people that will work with us are those that can help to drive our policies in our quest to deliver good governance.

"We are committed to ensuring fairness in all we do, particularly in the distribution of appointments and infrastructure, among others. I can assure that those that we picked are people of substance who were chosen by their people and the party. We followed our party's directive before the appointment and I can assure our people of excellent performance.

"As for those who believe that unless they have their representative in the cabinet, they cannot get infrastructure development, I want to assure them of equitable distribution of resources and that there won't be any infrastructure gap.

"We are going to resolve where we have issues. In any case, if you look at our lawmakers in the state House of Assembly, we have 26 of them against 31 Local Government Areas in the state. It is not every local government that has representative in the House.
"I charge those that have been appointed to see their appointments as service to the people and the state. They must all see the need to serve and not to abuse the office", Oyetola said.

On his birthday, the governor expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life to witness another year, just as he appealed to the people of the state to continue to support the administration, assuring them of “better days ahead.”

In his lecture, the Mufasir-li-Imam of Osogbo, Sheihk Maroof Ishola, urged the celebrant to dedicate much of his time to prayers and thanksgiving to God for the mercies shown on him and his family.

He commended the governor for fulfilling the promises made while seeking office as being manifested in the pace of developmental strides achieved in the last 10 months.

Sheikh Ishola, who expressed confidence in the administration, said the state is on the verge of unprecedented development.

The cleric also seized the occasion to admonish the nominees on the need for them to prioritise the development of the state in all they do.

Also, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Gboyega Famodun, corroborated the governor when he said the appointment of the Commissioner and Special Adviser designates was purely the party's affair, saying the governor consulted widely before making the list public.
