Osun Government Special Announcement

Osun Government Special Announcement

Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has directed the cancellation of the proposed foreign trip by local government chairmen to attend a workshop.

The governor said although it is desirable to continue to expose government officials to capacity building, the time is not auspicious for this trip, which was approved in September 2018.

The governor assures pubic officers in the state that they will continue to be given the benefit of training at the appropriate time as the financial situation of the state permits.

THIS DUBAI TRIP

THIS DUBA
I TRIP.

Of recent there has been out cry about Nigerian political players going to Dubai, either for political scheming, business deals or even relaxation which in Yoruba language could mean “yotomi” “faaji” and so on. The very recent been the local government council chairmen of Osun intended CAPACITY ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM in Dubai, the memo to that effect get to social media and hell was let loose on the matter.

Digging deep into the matter, it was  revealed that the plan and funding (which has been done already) predates Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration, the program has been initially slated for sometimes around September 2018, it should be recalled that the Osun gubernatorial election where  Governor Gboyega Oyetola won triumphantly  was conducted around the same September 2018 which saw to the halt of the trip because as local government chairmen, they are practically involved in the election,  it is also worthy of note that before this allotted time (September 2018) all expenses have been paid to the service providers which include flight ticket to and fro to Dubai, accommodation and other needs. This is even before the election that cruised Oyetola into the apex office of the land, so tagging the governor with issues that has been sealed before his emergence is nothing but mischievous.

FACTS ABOUT GOVERNMENT SPONSORED TRAVELS.

For those who are familiar with how government works, there is a level you will get to qualify for international trainings, ask various directors and permanent secretaries around, they will tell you stories of how they are beneficiaries of such gesture, even in private sector, companies sent their staffs out of the country to get training, these trend does not leave behind the military, as we know they often send some of their personnel outside the country for more training and exposure to international best practice , one begin to wonder why the case of these local government chairmen should be different.

It is the believe of everyone that our political leaders need some capacity advancement to be able to meet up with the contemporary challenges we are facing in the country, rather than condemn, let’s support those in power to get needed skills especially if it doesn’t affect the finances of the current administration, must I remind you that it has been paid for before the advent of the current administration, the state tends to lose more if the program is canceled, yes we would lose money because it has been finalized and paid for since September 2018, and we would also lose the opportunity to train this leaders at this time.

While I acknowledge the need for financial prudency which the governor represents, the need to build contemporary leaders for effective leadership and representation is more necessary.

Contemporary problems need contemporary answers which in my view are lacking in Nigerian political space hence the need for more education and development trainings such as this one; it’s the norm since time immemorial.

ALGON CLARIFICATION ON THE DELIBERATE DISTORTIONS OF FACTS ON THE OSUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMEN'S TRIP TO DUBAI

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

9 June 2019

ALGON CLARIFICATION ON THE DELIBERATE DISTORTIONS OF FACTS ON THE OSUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMEN'S TRIP TO DUBAI

'Out trip is seriously intentioned, honourable in purpose'

The attention of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), State of Osun Branch, has been drawn to the deliberate distortions of facts on social media concerning on the proposed Training Trip to be embarked upon by the Sixty Eight (68) Local Council Chairmen to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

While we not ordinarily have bothered joining issues with rumour mongers and well-known merchants of falsehoods (and their mercenaries in the mainstream media), we as a responsible organisation feel we owe the peace and development loving people of the State of Osun as a responsibility to set the records straight lest unsuspecting will be misinformed by these stray group of professional liars who are hell bent on destroying our beloved state if we decide to maintain a dignified silence. Since these elements are known to hold the belief that to continue to spread lies will make the people believe them if the lies are big enough, we think a decent clarification of the facts became necessary.

It would be recalled that the Rauf Aregbesola's administration saw the urgent need to strengthen and engender development at the grassroots by creating 68 Local Councils in the state over two years ago. As a result of the unique parliamentary system adopted by the Councils, the administration saw the need to sponsor the Chairmen of a 10-day Training in Dubai. The funds for the Training have been approved to be facilitated by a well-known logistics firm, ETCETERA INTERACTIONS LIMITED which entered into an agreement with the State Government some months ago. Unfortunately, due to other pressing State Matters, the Trip was postponed.

We, therefore, remained dismayed by the orchestrated falsehoods by these agents of darkness and lawlessness to paint the picture of gloom that the Trip was recently approved by Governor Gbenga Oyetola when it is, in fact, to public knowledge that it is not. Can they be decent enough to take politics away from the gutters please? Although, we are comfortably numb to the opposition: its cons, its lies, lest we forget, its failure to install illiterate as Governor, state of Osun.

We are therefore calling on all State of Osun indigenes both home and abroad to shun the falsehoods orchestrated by the visionless opposition against our hardworking governor. We also assure all that the Chairmen's Training Trip is for the benefit. It will come with knowledge transfer which are much-needed for good governance at the grassroots.

Signed:
Hon. Abiodun Idowu, ALGON Chairman,
 State of Osun Chapter.

OSUN AND THE SOCIAL MEDIA KIDNAPPING.

OSUN AND THE SOCIAL MEDIA KIDNAPPING.

Osun State, the hitherto acclaimed most peaceful state in Nigeria has of recent been focus of media gaze owing to the incessant real and imagined cases of kidnapping along some major routes in the state.

Of course, the media , both the traditional and the contemporary citizens social media have been inundated by the story of these occurrences, expectedly sometimes erroneous and treacherous reportage.

For the record, it was true that a Professor of Orthopedic surgery from the Obafemi Awolowo university was kidnapped along the Ikire-Ibadan expressway, but regaining its freedom five days later. It has also not be denied that a hunter was abducted along Esa Odo Community Obokun Local Government who also regained his freedom few days later.

These cases that made heavy headlines across the media divides are no doubt sad, condemnable and regretted. Alas, many more imaginary scenario that only existed in the imagination of the authors have dominated the unregulated social media space in recent period.

For instance, it was maliciously circulated that some 13 CAC pastors were kidnapped along the Ilesa-Ibadan expressway, where as nothing of such occurred anywhere. These elements of disability and their agents have recently and currently brandishing a list purportedly containing routes within Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States tagged as kidnappers hideouts. The police riposte to this criminal misinformation is quite instructive in this regards. In a statement endorsed by the Public Relation Officer of the Ekiti state police command, DSO Caleb Ikechuckwu, the police authority insists that the routes between The Ekiti and Osun is safe, while the the Osun police command, spokesperson, Mrs Folasade Odoro also maintains that regular armed operational patrol and surveillance are on the routes connecting Osun to other states 24 hours.

As a permanent measure to curtail the existing threat of kidnapping, the Governor of Osun State and the combined leadership of the security agencies on Wednesday, 5th June met and perfected improved security measures to keep the state safe for all.

However, it must emphasised that the unprofessional, malicious and mischievous reportage left its scars on the psyche of Osun residents, both home and abroad; forcing many people to stay away from the territory for fear of being kidnapped. The consequence of such development on the socio economic life of the people of the state could better be imagined.

Its therefore unambiguous to any discerning mind that the authors of this satanic and fallacious information are enemies of the state, bent on inflicting massive injury on the economy of the state and the life of its people.

Similarly, ethnicising the criminal act of kidnapping, blaming it on a particular group of people without any verifiable evidence is a deliberate attempt to further farm the ember of discord and truncate the relative peaceful coexistence in the country.

The position of this piece is not just to justify government's action in proactively confronting the various security challenges in the country, but its important to caution saboteurs among us that raising false alarm under any guise will only worsen the situation and makes life unbearable for all.

We owe it a constitutional and moral duty to assist government in performing it's functions of security and welfare of the people under section 14 (2) b of the 1999 Constitution.
