Osun to collaborate with TAMPAN to end immorality in Nigeria~ says Oyetola.

Governor State of Osun Mr Gboyega Oyetola has said the state is currently creating a database of Theatre and Arts practioners with a view to creating mutual working relationship and giving them the necessary support as a government.

He said this is part of the resolve of his administration to support the association in promoting and preserving  our cultural heritage as a people and to use the avenue to end immorality in the country.

Governor Oyetola announced this on today, Thursday December 12, 2019 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital at the opening ceremony of the 2019 National Conference of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Producers Association (TAMPAN) tagged "Oyo 2019".

The Governor who spoke through his Deputy Mr Benedict Alabi commended the association saying it is a body that has greatly succeeded in creating massive jobs to the teeming nigerian youths  which has helped to check youth restiveness and other crimes.

Governor Oyetola said the importance of the association cannot be overemphasized as a body that creates avenue to educate and inform people on issues of values, cultural heritage and language and communicate our identity to the rest of the world.

He however challenged the association to do more to correct the ills being imposed on the society through the influence of the internet and globalization.

He maintained that as a mirror of the society, the association must spare no effort to protect our culture and identity by discouraging all forms of crimes and immorality including nudity, immoral dress code, prostitution and more importantly, kidnapping and banditry.

According to him, this can be done by  concentrating more on correctional stories that would send the right message to the audience.

Governor Oyetola who described Osun as an epicenter of culture said the state has brought the world attention especially the UNESCO through the propagation of cultural heritage.

He disclosed that his administration is making frantic efforts to exploit culture and tourism to attract investment to the state through which job opportunities would be created to the teeming youths thereby creating wealth and bring prosperity to the state and its people.

"I commend your creativity which is national service and service to humanity. If in the midst of the challenges created by the emergence of the internet and the new media, we still have an avenue to make our culture relevant, we must thank the producers who labour day and night to create scripts of didactic importance. Watching films and live stage dramas relives our moment of history, improves our entertainment culture, emplaces acceptable behaviour and serves as therapy in these hard times.

"Osun is the epicenter of culture. We have brought the world attention, especially UNESCO through the propagation of our cultural heritage and we are exploiting this avenue to attract investment to the State. In furtherance of our resolve to propagate our culture and promote our tourism potential, we shall give support to TAMPAN. The State Ministry of Culture and Tourism is currently creating a data base of Theatre Arts Practitioners with a view to creating mutual working relationship and giving them the necessary support.

"As you deliberate on further steps to manage your Association, I charge you to be more pro-active. Look after the welfare of your members, give special attention to the Legends or Senior Citizens, seek their advice and continue to educate your members on the need to be good Ambassadors of your Association", Governor Oyetola added.

Emulate Prophet Muhammad, keep your promises to people, Oyetola tasks Muslim colleagues, others

Emulate Prophet  Muhammad, keep your promises to people, Oyetola tasks Muslim colleagues, others

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called on all Nigerian leaders, including fellow Muslim governors to lead according to the Islamic tenets by delivering their campaign promises to the people.

Oyetola maintained that the world would be a better place to live if only Muslims could emulate the virtues of the Holy Prophet in the way they relate with others in society, adding that the Islamic religion enjoins Muslims to be just and keep their promises to the people at all times.

He made this call on Wednesday while speaking at the opening of the International Conference on the Biography of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) and his Impact in Interethnic and Interreligious Harmony, organised by Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) in collaboration with Husret Education and Cultural Co. Limited and Hira Magazine, held in the mosque complex, University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Oyetola, who described his administration in Osun as a product of God's promise, said as a Muslim Governor who is holding a position of trust, he has in the last one year comported himself within the dictates of the Holy Qur'an and the tradition of the Holy Prophet by delivering on his campaign promises to the people of the State.

He said keeping promises was part of the good attributes of the Holy Prophet which Muslims are expected to emulate and teach people from other religions in their conducts and character.

"Muslims across the globe are supposed to lead others by example. One defining exemplary leadership style of Prophet Muhammad is his ability to keep promises, including those ones made to non-Muslims. The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah bears eloquent testimony to this fact. In Islam, breaking promises is a grievous sin.

"There are several verses of the Holy Qur’an that emphasise the need to keep promises. Qur’an 17: 34, particularly says '...fulfill (every) engagement, for (every) engagement will be enquired into (on the Day of Reckoning)'. Prophet Muhammad also said: 'The person who has no covenant has no faith'. He went further to add that 'Whoever has faith in Allah and the Day of Reckoning should fulfill his promises'.

"Conscious of the above fact, as a Muslim, whom God, in His infinite mercies, has chosen to steer the affairs of the State of Osun, I have not failed in my responsibilities to provide good governance to our people by delivering on my campaign promises," Oyetola stated.

The governor further said the numerous achievements of his administration across all sectors in the last one year, including health, education, infrastructure and security, were in fulfillment of his campaign promises to the people.

He disclosed that part of his promises was to remain committed to the welfare of workers by paying their full salaries and benefits as and when due, a promise he noted, he has never failed to keep, adding that his administration will continue to operate in line with the dictates of Islam by keeping the trust and confidence reposed in him by the citizens.

"Only last month, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) commended our government for effectively utilising the funds released to the State by the agency.

UNICEF, which spoke through its Field Officer, Mr. Tushar Rene, said and I quote 'On behalf of UNICEF, I wish to commend this government for effectively utilising funds obtained from this agency. This is the first State to approve the social protection policy and law, the 332 primary healthcare centers across the State and so on. We congratulate the governor for the job particularly in education, child and maternal health.'

"I decided to let you into some of these things to let you know that as leaders, we are conscious of our responsibilities and we will discharge them honourably and responsibly with the fear of Allah. The commendations from international organisations like UNICEF, World Bank and the likes bear eloquent testimony to our modest achievements in the last one year," Oyetola added.

Participants at the Conference were drawn from different countries across the globe, including Islamic religious leaders and scholars from Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan, India.

Join hands with govt to banish corruption in Nigeria, Oyetola urges accounting practitioners

Join hands with govt to banish corruption in Nigeria, Oyetola urges accounting practitioners

...as ANAN leadership lauds Oyetola on good governance, accountability, transparency

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has implored accounting experts to join hands with government at various levels in the fight against corruption and other public misconducts.

He also charged the professionals in the accounting sector to continue to uphold the professional ethics, standard and best practices for them to be able to contribute meaningfully to the economy and compete favourably with their national and international peers.

This is even as the President and Chairman of Council, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Prof. Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, lauded the administration of Governor Oyetola for being transparent, accountable and for raising the bar of good governance in the State.

Oyetola spoke on Tuesday at the 6th Session of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme, organised by the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), at the De-Distinguished Event Hall, Osogbo.

The governor,  who described ANAN as a strong stakeholder in the nation's economy, called on its members to collaborate with the Federal Government in its bid to rid the nation of corruption and turn the economy around.

He stressed that the war against corruption and the resolve to revitalise the economy can only be won when all hands are on deck at the institutional and personal levels, adding that ANAN occupies the forefront in the task.

He said professionalism and integrity are central to the accounting profession, hence the need for the practitioners to uphold the tenets and flush out the bad eggs in the profession.

The governor, who noted that the new entrants into the accounting profession are its strength and hope, enjoined the leadership of the association to always ensure that the best hands are recruited into the profession, saying "the senior members must endeavour to mentor the younger ones in order to sustain the integrity of the profession".

He also lauded the leadership of the association for considering Osun as the venue of the 2019 edition of the programme.

"It is heart-warming that your association organises the annual Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme to build capacity of your members, integrate new members into the family and interrogate issues that are germane to the nation's economy.

"The war against corruption and the resolve to revitalise the economy can only be won when all hands are on deck at the institutional and personal levels and ANAN occupies the forefront in this task.

"Professionalism and integrity are central to the accounting profession. Indeed, they are the currency of the profession. I implore you to continue to uphold these two tenets and flush out the bad eggs in the profession.

"New entrants into the accounting profession are its strength and hope. There is therefore a need to ensure that the best hands are recruited into the profession. Senior members must endeavour to mentor the younger ones in order to sustain the integrity of the profession.

"I equally urge the mentees to be ready to surrender themselves to mentorship and abide by the ethics of the profession", Oyetola stressed.

Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), President and Chairman of Council, Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, thanked Governor Oyetola for his support and magnanimity in hosting the Association.

He described the governor as "organised, youthful, energetic, trustworthy, orderly, loving and acceptable.

"Your laudable achievements are evident in the drive at boosting the Education, Agriculture, Mining, Textile and Tourism sectors in the State, strengthening of the State's capacity for internally generated revenue, fostering industrialisation and sustenance of safe and peaceful state for citizens," Mainoma added.

In his own remarks, the Osun State Chairman of ANAN, Dr. Sunday Olaoye also lauded Mr. Governor for keeping to his campaign promises by paying the workers' full salaries as and when due, adding that the current administration had been a blessing to workers and entire citizens of the State.
