Oyetola advocates functional education as a catalyst for sustainable development
Governor, State of Osun Mr Gboyega Oyetola has said it is the resolve of his administration to use functional education as a catalyst for sustainable development.
Governor Oyetola disclosed this on Friday at the Maiden Convocation and conferment of first degrees and award of prizes of the Kings University, Odeomu.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy Mr. Benedict Alabi charged all the stakeholders in education to continue to strive to premise education on best practices to the students in the interest of the nation and posterity.
According to him, education must be seen beyond awarding and obtaining certificates but as tool to create wealth and prosperity in the society.
Governor Oyetola said to make education functional and rewarding, students must be ready to combine attributes such as altitude and good character, creativity, honestly, hardwork, diligence and fear of God to be able to excel in their chosen careers in life.
He commended the proprietor of the King's University Odeomu Senior Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo for founding the institution in the state to help government in its efforts to build champions and leaders of tommorow.
He said apart from contributing to the economy of the host community Odeomu and the state at large, the University will also expose the state to the world as an advocate of functional education for better future.
Mr Oyetola while congratulating the University on the maiden convocation charged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the institution and the State by displaying character and competence wherever they are.
" It is the resolve of our administration to continue to use functional education as a tool for sustainable development and we are happy that King's University is our partner in this regard.
"I want to charge the University authorities to continue to strive to premise education on best practices to the students in the interest of the nation and posterity", Governor Oyetola added.

The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has admonished the newly- inaugurated members of the cabinet to shun acts capable of undermining the corporate integrity of the administration and the state.
Governor Oyetola said the administration has zero tolerance for corruption and opacity, warning that the government would not hesitate to wield the big stick where necessary on any official found wanting of public misconduct.
The governor warned the new Commissioners and Special Advisers to do away with frivolities and work as one formidable and impenetrable team, bound together by the sole aim of delivering on the Developmental Agenda of the administration.
Governor Oyetola spoke on Thursday while inaugurating the 35 newly-appointed cabinet members, at the White House Parking Lots, Bola Ige House, State Secretariat, Osogbo.
He called on them to see their appointments as clarion call to serve humanity and support the administration to uplift the state.
"Our Administration is a product of God's Promise, the benevolence of the people and our Mandate. The Almighty God and the people have delivered their own part. The ball is now in our court to deliver on our promise. As heads of Ministries, you are our delivery channel. I charge you to harness the available human and material resources to fulfil our bond to the people.
"This administration has zero tolerance for corruption and opacity. We shall therefore not hesitate to wield the big stick where necessary.
"Ensure that you discharge every duty with utmost probity, accountability and transparency as these are the elements that will deliver stellar service in the face of extant limited resources and earn the trust of the people.
"As I indicated during the very intensive four-day retreat held last week, ours is an administration fully aware of the strategic role providence has thrusted upon us.
"We are aware of the onerous duty to build a truly-diversified economy that creates wealth and makes opportunities available for all classes of our fellow citizens," the governor added.
He also said cabinet members will be assessed from time to time for optimum performance.
The governor further said "Knowing that you do not have the luxury of time to spend on the learning curve, I charge you to quickly familiarise yourselves with the content of our Administration’s Development Agenda. You must realise that this is a task that must be accomplished. Similar to the Ada Declaration you pledged to uphold, a Performance Charter will be handed over to you today to guide your role in delivering on the Agenda. There will be a Service Delivery and Performance Evaluation Unit to assess your performance and productivity from time to time."
Speaking on behalf of the newly-inaugurated cabinet members, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, lauded the governor for the confidence reposed in them to serve the state.
She assured the governor and the entire people of the state of diligent service in their respective ministries.
"We will not disappoint you. We will put in our very best to support the administration and uplift the standard of living of the people of the state.
"We shall take to the lessons garnered at the retreat to effect positive change across sectors" she added.
Also speaking, the newly- inaugurated Deputy Chief of Staff in-charge of General Administration, Barrister Mikhail Adejare Adebisi, implored all members of the cabinet to see their appointments as a privilege to impact meaningfully on the lives of the people of the state.

The Deputy Governor state of Osun Mr Gboyega Alabi has assured Monsurat Ajoke Foundation, a non Government Organization working to stop violence against women and children that he will use support the foundation.
Mr Alabi made the promise when the Founder of the Foundation Mrs Monsurat Ibrahim visited him in his office. The Deputy Governor who was full of praises to the Foundation, said every reasonable Nigerian must stand up to put a stop to the menaces. He commended the effort of the founder, saying not only that the society will appreciate the work of the foundation, God will reward them abundantly.
While commenting on the proposed launching of the Foundation and empowerment program latter this year, the deputy Governor assured that, he would not only be present, he would mobilise his friends to attend the program.
In her remark, the founder of the Foundation, Monsurat Ibrahim explained that, she took the decision to champion the fight against women and children abuse because hundreds of these set of people lare dying in silence.

Governor of The State of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, has appointed Mr. Mikhail Adejare Adebisi as the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCoS) in charge of General Administration.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
Ismail Omipidan, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, said the latest appointment was announced by the governor himself on Friday while declaring closed, the 4-day retreat organised to sensitise political appointees in the state of the task ahead.
The new DCoS, who had served both as Assistant Chief of Staff and Special Adviser in the Governor's Office, holds an LL.M degree and he is currently pursuing his doctorate programme in Law.
An illustrious son of Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area, Adebisi, 53, was until his latest appointment the Supervisor in charge of General Administration, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Adebisi, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile-Ife, where he bagged a B.Sc degree in Sociology/Anthropology, equally holds a law degree as well as an M.Sc degree in International Relations from the same university.
A lawyer cum politician, Adebisi was elected Councillor and he was Supervisory Councillor for Education, from 1997 to 1998, and he was also the State Publicity Secretary of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), from 2003 to 2006. He had also served in various capacities in the Action Congress (AC) before he joined the government in 2011.

Governor Oyetola restructures ministries, charges nominees on full implementation of ideas
Governor of The State of Osun, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola has restructured the ministries in the state.
He said the idea was to make the government more effective and efficient in the pursuit of the administration’s development agenda for the state.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of a 4-day Executive Council Retreat for Commissioner and Special Adviser designates, which held at MicCom Golf Resort, Ada, State of Osun.
Similarly, the governor has also charged the appointees to ensure full implementation of all ideas generated at the retreat for the benefit of the state.
Oyetola, who spoke after the communique for the retreat was read out and adopted on Friday, to signal the end of the retreat maintained that the four-day programme had generated what he decsribed as "various ideas of immense value".
He assured the nominees that he would give necessary support within the limits of the available resources to enable them perform, as the administration was determined to deliver "an Osun that would become a benchmark for many generations to come."
He added that a performance charter would be handed to each of the nominees as a way of measuring their individual relevance in the cabinet.
"The only way to reciprocate the trust reposed in us is to go ahead and implement the Development Agenda conscientiously. As you know, great ideas are only relevant to the extent to which they are translated to concrete and measurable impact on the people.
"It would have been sheer waste of valuable time if all that have been produced here are not painstakingly applied in enhancing the quality of life of our beloved citizens.
"Your tasks have been carefully defined to enable you give full expression to your competence and contribution within the larger context of the Development Agenda. I count on you to write your name in gold through excellent service delivery.
"As I mentioned in my address to you on Wednesday, we are a team on the threshold of history and what we do with the privileged opportunity would determine what posterity would record about us. We have an opportunity to make indelible footprints in the sands of time and we must not fall short.
"Our people are waiting. I am ready. I know it is possible. Together, let’s labour to deliver an Osun that would become a benchmark for many generations to come.
"That is the pathway to living forever in the minds of the people. Let’s tread it. A greater Osun that works for all classes of our people, with adequate physical and social infrastructure to support industry, and where there is abundant economic prosperity for all is our vision. And we shall attain it," the governor added.
The restructured 20 ministries are: Finance; Economic Planning and Budget; Agriculture and Food Security; Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Education; Health; Justice; Works and Transports; Information and Civic Orientation; Environment and Sanitation; Women and Children Affairs, and Water Resources.
Others are: Land, Physical Planning and urban Development; Special Duties and Regional Integration; Innovation, Science and Technolog; Home Affairs, Culture and Tourism; Youths and Sports; Rural Development and Community Affairs and Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives.
The governor noted that there would be no ranking in the cabinet and that the idea of Commissioner and Special Adviser was merely for administrative convenience.

He said the idea was to make the government more effective and efficient in the pursuit of the administration’s development agenda for the state.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of a 4-day Executive Council Retreat for Commissioner and Special Adviser designates, which held at MicCom Golf Resort, Ada, State of Osun.
Similarly, the governor has also charged the appointees to ensure full implementation of all ideas generated at the retreat for the benefit of the state.
Oyetola, who spoke after the communique for the retreat was read out and adopted on Friday, to signal the end of the retreat maintained that the four-day programme had generated what he decsribed as "various ideas of immense value".
He assured the nominees that he would give necessary support within the limits of the available resources to enable them perform, as the administration was determined to deliver "an Osun that would become a benchmark for many generations to come."
He added that a performance charter would be handed to each of the nominees as a way of measuring their individual relevance in the cabinet.
"The only way to reciprocate the trust reposed in us is to go ahead and implement the Development Agenda conscientiously. As you know, great ideas are only relevant to the extent to which they are translated to concrete and measurable impact on the people.
"It would have been sheer waste of valuable time if all that have been produced here are not painstakingly applied in enhancing the quality of life of our beloved citizens.
"Your tasks have been carefully defined to enable you give full expression to your competence and contribution within the larger context of the Development Agenda. I count on you to write your name in gold through excellent service delivery.
"As I mentioned in my address to you on Wednesday, we are a team on the threshold of history and what we do with the privileged opportunity would determine what posterity would record about us. We have an opportunity to make indelible footprints in the sands of time and we must not fall short.
"Our people are waiting. I am ready. I know it is possible. Together, let’s labour to deliver an Osun that would become a benchmark for many generations to come.
"That is the pathway to living forever in the minds of the people. Let’s tread it. A greater Osun that works for all classes of our people, with adequate physical and social infrastructure to support industry, and where there is abundant economic prosperity for all is our vision. And we shall attain it," the governor added.
The restructured 20 ministries are: Finance; Economic Planning and Budget; Agriculture and Food Security; Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Education; Health; Justice; Works and Transports; Information and Civic Orientation; Environment and Sanitation; Women and Children Affairs, and Water Resources.
Others are: Land, Physical Planning and urban Development; Special Duties and Regional Integration; Innovation, Science and Technolog; Home Affairs, Culture and Tourism; Youths and Sports; Rural Development and Community Affairs and Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives.
The governor noted that there would be no ranking in the cabinet and that the idea of Commissioner and Special Adviser was merely for administrative convenience.
Earlier, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Charles Akinola, said the essence of the retreat was to prepare the appointees for the task ahead in order to understand the nitty gritty of the government's development agenda.
